AGRICOLA I FABBRI Olinto Chianti Classico DOCG

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby.  Initially reduced dark berry and floral aromas are brightened by a peppery, spicy nuance.  Chewy blackberry and bitter dark cherry flavours show good depth and focus, with a hint of cocoa and a stronger graphite presence emerging on the back end.  Closes with firm grip and good length, leaving a flinty note behind. Refined in concrete tanks, the two varietals are blended before bottling, followed by three months of refinement in bottle.

The Story

Susanna named her Chianti Classico for her Great-Grandfather, Olinto Grassi. The signature on the label is his signature from an official document dating back to the turn of the last century. Olinto was the first to bottle wine from the Grassi estate in the early 1900s, breaking with the family tradition of becoming a blacksmith (fabbri in Italian). Instead he dedicated his life to enlarging and improving the beautiful terraced vineyards which are his legacy. With this bottle, Susanna pays tribute to him and honours the generations before her.

Lamole, Chianti Classico

On the slopes of the famous hills of Lamole, 500 metres above sea level, stand 9 hectares of specialized vineyards registered in the DOCG Chianti Classico. The superior quality of their production finds its roots in tangible history and experience: the rich centuries-old terraces shaped like a natural amphitheatre facing South-South-West, which guarantee the right amount of heat and sunlight; the sandstone terrain with its perfect drainage which gives the Sangiovese grapes a very delicate floral bouquet.
