BLACK MARKET WINE CO.  Omertà Rosé

Tasting Notes

Don’t let the pale colour fool you…this wine has amazing depth and complexity. The vibrant nose has the hallmark aromas of wild strawberries, raspberry and a hint of watermelon. On the palate, the entry is bright and juicy, dominated by wild red berries and rhubarb. There’s a surprising creamsicle note on the finish. Crisp acidity with only the slightest hint of sweetness, this wine finishes dry.

Omertà  means “a code of honour that places importance on silence, non-cooperation with authorities, and non-interference in the illegal actions of others.”

Winemaking Notes

A crisp, dry rosé made from 30-year old Merlot vines, grown at our Conviction Ridge estate vineyard in Kaleden. The delicate pale pink hue of this rosé perfectly disguises the intensity that lies within. Hand picked and hand sorted, the wine was made in separate batches harvested 2 weeks apart. The first batch captured the acidity and fresh fruit flavours. Destemmed and lightly crushed, the grapes were cold soaked for 2 hours before heading to the press.  The second batch captured riper flavours, and went straight to the press with no maceration time. Only free-run juice made its way into this wine.

Region Notes

Estate-grown – Conviction Ridge Vineyard, Kaleden. The Okanagan Falls area is famed for some of Canada’s top wine production with the highest quality wines in the valley. This region of the South Okanagan is a unique climatic zone know as a semi-arid steppe, the final stage of a desert area that extends up from the United States. Along with that comes long warm days and cool nights that retain the acidity in the grapes and helps shape their distinctive character and flavours.
