COLLEFRISIO Pinot Grigio

Tasting Notes

Lightly perfumed with hints of stone fruit and orange peel, the palate is beautifully weighted, lush and silky with rolling flavours of sweet pear, galia melon and hints of mango and apricot. Produced in a rounder, plumper style than most Italian Pinot Grigios you’ll come across, this Abruzzo version is more like the Pinot Gris of Alsace or New Zealand.

Abruzzo, Italy

Region Notes

A warm, Mediterranean vine-growing paradise, in Abruzzo, the distance from mountains to seaside is relatively short. The geographical makeup of Abruzzo is quite remarkable. A rugged, mountainous region with a lengthy coastline, abundant sunshine, generous rainfall and cool mountain air currents. Abruzzo is ideally situated between the Adriatic sea to the east, and the Apennines and Maiella mountain ranges to the west – including Gran Sasso, one of Italy's highest peaks at more than 9500ft (2895m). Chieti is a hilly province in southern Abruzzi where 75% of the region's wine is produced.

Vineyards for the Pinot Grigio are in the IGT of Terre di Chieti, nestled in the foothills of central Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Technical Notes

Winemaking: Maceration at low temperature, then a soft pressing. Fermented in stainless steel.
