HEUCQ PERE & FILS Champagne, France
Champagne HEUCQ Père & Fils was founded in 1920 in Cuisles, in the heart of the Marne Valley. The domain has over 6 ha of vineyards, with a focus on Pinot Meunier. The wines tend toward natural methods, but adhere to no specific dogma. In producing his wines, André is focused primarily on a complex assemblage of base wines that will produce a well-balanced champagne. The end result should be serious, full bodied and yet also highly fresh and elegant thanks to Cuisles's notably cool climate. Shy, refined aromas whisper rather than yell, just like their maker. André Heucq is a congenial, friendly yet reserved fellow who knows nonetheless exactly what he's doing and what he likes.
Organic & Biodynamic. Limited production.
The vineyards are in the village of Cuisles, in the heart of Vallée de la Marne. Their unique green clay Illite soils are rich in nutrients and needs less water than the typical chalky clay of the region. Thanks to this unusual combination of soil and micro-climate, Meunier wines from Cuisles can truly be said to be ‘champagnes de terroir’. They have a mineral quality that is rare in other Meunier wines and, contrary to what is sometimes said about Meunier, they have good aging potential.
