Tasting Notes

Straw yellow with vivid greenish hues. Intense and vibrant nose of Sicilian citrus fruits such as medlar and grapefruit, and just a hint of savoury basil. Wonderful tropical fruit and herbal and mineral notes on the palate. The bright, fresh flavour of grapefruit makes this wine refreshing and racy.

Widely used in Sicily for making Marsala, Grillo produces crisp and savory wines—some structured enough to offer moderate aging potential. Lighter styles have citrus blossom and peach nuances, while more aromatic versions deliver passion fruit, grapefruit and herbal sensations reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc. Lees contact and barrel aging create more complex, mineral-driven wines loaded with apple and citrus flavors. Vineyards closest to the sea produce wines with pronounced saline notes.

Region Notes

Menfi is on the southwestern coast of Sicily, a unique and pristine area made up of rolling hills with different slopes, aspects and altitudes which combined with the types of soils, create many different terroirs, each ideal for a different variety. The environmental conditions at this latitude are ideal for the cultivation of grapes: the dry climate, the intense light, the influence of the sea breezes and the differences in temperatures by day and night, all combine in making the vineyards healthy and their grapes of great quality.

Technical Notes

Soil: calcareous, loose-packed
Altitude:  80-200 metres above sea level
Yield: 12,000 kg/ha
Winemaking: The grapes are manually harvested in mid-August. The grapes are de-stemmed and the resultant must is rapidly chilled to 46˚F on its way to the press. 
Aging: The wine is matured in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for 3 months.
