a.k.a. Muscat of Alexandria is thought to be one of the oldest genetically unmodified vines still in existence. It is a member of the Muscat family, likely originating in North Africa ('zibib is Arabic for 'grape') that adapts well to a variety of hot, arid climates. Today it is grown in Southern Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain, and there are also significant plantings in Australia and South Africa. In Sicily Zibibbo has long been used to make a wide range of styles of wine, from dry, to sweet to sparkling.

Region Notes

Menfi is on the southwestern coast of Sicily, a unique and pristine area made up of rolling hills with different slopes, aspects and altitudes which combined with the types of soils, create many different terroirs, each ideal for a different variety. The environmental conditions at this latitude are ideal for the cultivation of grapes: the dry climate, the intense light, the influence of the sea breezes and the differences in temperatures by day and night, all combine in making the vineyards healthy and their grapes of great quality.

Technical Notes

Soil: calcareous, loose-packed

Altitude:  100- 400 metres above sea level

Plant Density: 4300-4700 plants / ha

Winemaking: After maceration of the grapes at a temperature of 5-8 ° C for 4-6 hours, the juice is fermented for about 30 days in stainless steel tanks at 12 ° C. Maturation takes place for 3 months on the lees

Refinement: In the bottle for 3 months
