Region & Vineyard Notes

The Cévennes IGP is located in the northern edge of the Languedoc in the department of Gard, near the city of Nimes. The region takes its name from the Cevennes mountain range, the southern foothills of the Massif Central. Like a vast amphitheatre overlooking the faraway Mediterranean, the vineyards stretch through the scrubland. They were originally planted by the early Greek settlers, then the Romans. One of its defining features is the distinctive, extremely well-kept terraces for which the Cévennes are famous. Grown mainly on limestone soils, the vineyards cover undulating landscapes where they grow alongside orchards, olive groves and cereal crops. The warm sunny days of summer and cool evenings give elegance and aromatic complexity to the wines of the region.
