CERTIFIED BIODYNAMIC

DOMAINE DE LA RONCIÈRE

Rhone, France

For three generations Domaine de la Roncière, on the south-facing slopes of the stony hills of the Rhone Valley,  has been run by the Canto family. Luis Canto moved to Chateauneuf du Pape from Spain in 1948 and bought the vineyard from its original owners in 1958. Grandfather, father and son, all live together at the Domaine, which includes 11 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape, 13 hectares of Cotes du Rhone, and another 6 classified as IGP. Some of the plots have nearly reached a century in age, these old strains benefit from more careful handling, and contribute to the exceptional quality of the wines. The vineyard is managed using biodynamic farming methods (certified by the Agriculture Biologique), respecting tradition, and harvests are hand picked and hand sorted.

Region Notes

Managed using sustainable farming methods since 2012, the Cotes du Rhone vineyards are located in Vaucluse, where the Mediterranean climate means hot summers and mild winters. The Mistral winds are a major feature of climate in the Vaucluse, as it is all up and down the Rhône Valley corridor.
The cool wind from the northeast blows fiercely here, with speeds exceeding 100 km/h and are a key factor in the health and quality of the vines and grapes of this unique region. Their cooling and drying effect discourages viruses and damp after a rainfall which helps to prevent fungal diseases.
