SEA CIDER FARM & CIDERHOUSE Vancouver Island, BC
Sea Cider is a farm-based cidery located on the Saanich Peninsula just minutes from Victoria, on Vancouver Island. The ten acre farm is home to over 1,300 apple trees, made up of over 50 varieties of heritage apples.
The Ciderhouse opened for business in 2007 when owner, Kristen Jordan, purchased the property with a vision of creating an organic farm and orchard and producing traditional fermented artisan ciders. Kristen was raised in Alberta with family roots in farming and ranching. Spending her summers at a family orchard in the Shuswap Lakes, she always held interest in the production of food. After school she went on to work in international development, focusing on food aid, before she decided to return to Canada.
Located just outside Victoria, this Saanich based cidery is home to an organic orchard that’s filled with 60 different varieties of cider and heritage apples. For tourists who think high tea at the Empress Hotel and the roses at Butchart Gardens have lost their appeal, Sea Cider is a must-see island attraction.
Vancouver Island’s Saanich area is well known for fruit farming. The proximity to the Pacific waters and sea breeze from the Haro Strait create the perfect environment for the apples in the orchard to develop optimal sugar and acidity.
