Sommer
SOMMER
Leithaberg, Austria
The Sommer winery on the south-eastern slope of the Leithaberg has existed since 1698. In 2023, the new generation, Leo Jr. and his wife Kathrin, officially took over the helm of the traditional winery.
Leo Jr. has been responsible for the style of the wines for several years now. But good things take time, and so many further developments have been carefully implemented and are gradually coming to the surface.
Shifting traditional paths, taking a lot of good things from the past, reflecting on the course of nature, entering into new connections with it - that is the path Leo Sommer jr. has chosen. And all of this nourishes the mindset: free-thinking, but with attitude. So that the dialog deepens.
The new generation is not interested in doing everything right, but doing it boringly. "We see the craft of wine as a continuous process - never finished, often a bumpy road. We work out the goal along the way - when we see what needs to be done," say Kathrin and Leo, explaining their approach to winemaking.
