COLLEFRISIO Confronto Bianco

Tasting Notes

Straw-yellow colour with greenish glows. Fruity aromas, apple, pineapple, chamomile and mulberry. Excellent structure, consistent and persistent on the palate.

Pecorino   /peck oh REE noh/

Pecorino is a very old indigenous Italian varietal currently making a comeback, appreciated for its ability to thrive at higher altitudes and for its great structure. There’s high acidity, plus the alcohol, that allows it to gain complexity over time. Like a red wine dressed up as a white. It is an early ripening variety that tends to naturally produce low yields. Peco means sheep in Italian, and may have been so named because grazing sheep liked to snack on these sweet berries.

On the Label

The banter played on the Confronto Vino Rosso label becomes severe and passionate in this Confronto Bianco. The scene of a man who wants to get better over the assertiveness of the other describes a conversation between two cultures: the local, featured by Pecorino, and the international, represented by Pinot Gris. The winner is the dialogue, sharing a friendly glass of Confronto.

Region Notes

The geographical makeup of Abruzzo is quite remarkable. A rugged, mountainous region with a lengthy coastline, abundant sunshine, generous rainfall and cool mountain air currents. Abruzzo is ideally situated between the Adriatic sea to the east, and the Apennines and Maiella mountain ranges to the west – including Gran Sasso, one of Italy's highest peaks at more than 9500ft (2895m). Chieti is a hilly province in southern Abruzzi where 75% of the region's wine is produced.
