DANIMI  Formamentis Primitivo

Tasting Notes - from Luca Maroni

Deep red colour with aromas of blackberries, full and dry. Recommended with roasted or braised meats, game, mature cheeses, pasta typical of Salento tradition.

Formamentis \FOR ma MEN tis\

The name Formamentis is derived from an expression used primarily in philosophy and psychology that refers to the thinking and actions of an individual as a result of their nature, as well as their conditioning and education. This interpretation of primitivo the a result of both its terroir and its careful cultivation.

Primitivo    /pree mee TEE voh/

An ancient varietal that can trace its roots back to the ancient Phoenicians and came to Puglia via Croatia -- it is rumoured to be the wine served at the Last Supper. Closely related to Zinfandel (though just how closely remains controversial), Primitivo, which translates roughly as "early one" is so named for its propensity to ripen before all other varietals. A classic Puglian Primitivo wine is high in both alcohol and tannins, intensely flavoured and deeply coloured.

Region Notes

The Salento peninsula, sometimes referred to as the heel of Italy’s boot, lies in teh southern-most portion of Puglia, between the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea. The terroir here is typical of Puglia – hot, flat and dry. The landscape is dominated by olive groves on a scale quite unlike any other part of Italy. Puglia generates almost half of Italy's olive oil.
